Getting started

How do I add a bill?

Tap the round + New bill in the middle of the tab bar, or step up to the fridge and tap a free spot (a dashed outline). The slip you’re writing hangs at the top and fills in as you type. Choose what kind of bill it is and what it’s for (See all shows every category), then the name, the amount, when it’s due and how often it repeats. Tap Stick it on the fridge.

What are the four kinds of bill?
  • Same every time: rent, an internet plan. The amount you enter is due every time.
  • Changes each time: electricity, water, credit cards. Type the real amount when the bill arrives; until then Fridgie shows an estimate (≈), the average of your last 3 bills.
  • Installments: loans and gadget plans. Enter each payment and how many there are; Fridgie counts down (“9 of 24”), shows what’s left, and celebrates when it’s paid off. If you’ve already made some payments, set Already paid when you add it.
  • One-time: a tax payment, tuition, a repair. One due date.

Insurance with a fixed term, say 5 yearly payments, works best as Installments, so it counts down and ends.

What was the tour when I first opened Fridgie?

After the welcome, a short guide points out the fridge, the calendar, the receipt spike and the light switch. Tap Next or anywhere to move on, or Skip. It only comes back after Reset All Data.

What does Autopay do?

Turn on Autopay for a bill that’s paid automatically, like a direct debit. On its due date Fridgie stamps it paid for you. If the debit failed, open the bill’s details and mark that payment Unpaid. Fridgie never pays anything itself: it only records the payment.

How do I add a widget?

Touch and hold the Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and search for Fridgie. The Due soon widget is free: overdue bills first, then what’s due in the next 7 days. Fridgie Pro adds Next bill, This month, a Mini fridge with all your slips, and Lock Screen widgets (touch and hold the Lock Screen, then Customize).

The kitchen

What do the slips’ colours mean?
  • A yellow flag on the edge: due today or in the next 7 days.
  • A red magnet and a curled corner: overdue, with how many days late.
  • A blue PAID stamp: paid (or skipped). It stays for the rest of the month it was due. When a new month starts, the slip moves on to that month’s payment.
  • PAID OFF: every payment of an installment plan (or a one-time bill) is made.
  • A green bar: installments, with how many are paid.
How do I see all my bills?

The drawer at the bottom of the kitchen shows the next bill to deal with, with Pay. Pull it up for every bill on the fridge, grouped Late, This week, Later and Paid, under this month’s Due, Paid and Left. The receipt tape at the top says what’s left to pay this month.

How do I move a slip to another spot?

Tap the fridge to step up close. Press a slip and drag it to another spot; drop it on another bill and the two swap places. Tap a slip instead to pick it: its card comes up with Mark paid and Details. Tap the back button, or an empty part of the door, to step back.

What’s on the notepad and the blue display?

On the free fridge, the notepad on the freezer door shows this month’s Due, Paid and Left, and how many bills are overdue. On the Pro fridge, the blue display on the left door shows what’s left to pay this month, how many are due and late, and how many of the 20 spots you’re using.

What happens when my fridge is full?

The free fridge has 9 spots and holds 6 bills: put them in any spot, and drag them around. Adding a 7th bill shows what Pro adds. With Fridgie Pro, your kitchen gets a stainless side-by-side fridge with room for 20 bills. 20 is the most Fridgie holds: take a bill off the fridge to make room for another.

Where are the calendar and my receipts?

Calendar and Receipts are in the tab bar. In the kitchen, the calendar on the wall and the receipt spike on the counter open them too.

What’s outside the window?

The street outside, at your iPhone’s time of day: a sunrise in the morning, blue sky in the day, a sunset in the evening, and the moon, stars and lit windows at night. The wall clock shows your iPhone’s time too.

What does the light switch do?

Tap the light switch on the wall under the clock, or use Settings → Kitchen lights. It’s Fridgie’s light and dark mode, on every screen: with the lights on, the whole app is light; with them off, the kitchen goes dark at night and every screen, sheet and receipt switches to dark mode. The first time you open Fridgie, the lights start the way your iPhone is set.

Can I see my bills as a list instead?

Yes. Turn on Settings → Show fridge as a list. The list also appears automatically when VoiceOver is on, and you can mark bills paid from it.

Paying bills

How do I mark a bill paid?

Tap Pay in the drawer, or step up to the fridge, tap the slip and Mark paid. Fill in the receipt: the amount, when you paid (Today, Yesterday or Pick a date…) and what you paid with (type it, or tap a suggestion like Card or Cash). Then press the round stamp: PAID lands on the receipt and on the slip. Changed your mind? Tap Undo in the message that appears.

I marked a bill paid by mistake. How do I undo it?

Tap Undo right away, or later open the bill’s Details: tap Unpaid next to the current due date, or swipe a past payment and tap Unpaid. Fridgie asks before it removes the payment. Up close at the fridge, the picked slip’s card has Unpaid too.

A bill isn’t owed this time. What do I do?

In Mark paid, tap Skip this one and confirm. That due date stops counting as due or late, and the next one carries on as usual. It isn’t marked paid.

Why does a slip say “ADD AMOUNT” or “ENTER AMOUNT”?

ADD AMOUNT is on bills you picked during setup: they don’t have an amount or a real due date yet, so they get no reminders. Tap the slip, then Details → Edit to fill them in. ENTER AMOUNT is on a bill that changes each time when this month’s amount isn’t in yet: type it when you mark it paid, or tap Save amount, pay later.

What happens when a loan is paid off?

When you stamp the last payment, Mark paid celebrates: “Car loan is paid off! All 24 payments made.” Choose Take it off the fridge or Keep it on the fridge. Its slip says PAID OFF, the drawer offers Take off, and Receipts marks the last payment.

How do I edit, take off or delete a bill?

Tap its slip (or its row in the drawer), then Details. There you can Edit it, see every payment, and Take it off the fridge when it’s paid off or you no longer owe it. Taken-off bills keep their payments in Receipts, and you can put them back from Settings → Taken off the fridge. To delete a bill completely, with its payments, use Delete bill at the bottom of Edit. Fridgie asks before it takes off or deletes anything.

Reminders

When do reminders arrive?

Two for each bill: a heads-up before it’s due (1 day before at 9:00 AM unless you change it) and a reminder on the due day (8:00 AM unless you change it). Set both in Settings → Bills: Heads-up, Heads-up time, On the due day and Due-day time. Each bill can have its own heads-up, or none. If a bill is still unpaid after its due date, Fridgie reminds you the next day, after 3 days and after a week. Marking it paid stops its reminders.

Fridgie’s reminders have their own sound: a fridge door opening, then two soft notes.

My reminders don’t arrive. What can I do?

Check these, in order:

  1. In iOS Settings → Notifications → Fridgie, Allow Notifications is on.
  2. In Fridgie’s Settings, Reminders is on and the times are right.
  3. The bill has an amount, and its own heads-up isn’t turned off.
  4. A Focus mode, such as Sleep, isn’t silencing notifications at that time.

Open Fridgie once after changing a setting, so it can schedule the next reminders. iOS lets an app keep 64 reminders waiting at a time, so Fridgie schedules the soonest ones and adds more each time you open it.

Receipts and money

How do Receipts work?

The Receipts tab is a book of printed receipts, one per month (by the day you paid): every payment, the total and how much you paid on time, plus a By category receipt. The free plan keeps the last 3 months; Year and All come with Fridgie Pro.

How do I print or share a receipt?

Tap a receipt in the book: it zooms in, shown exactly as it’ll print. Tap Print or share to print it, send it to family in Messages or email, post it, or Save Image to Photos (iOS asks for permission the first time).

I pay bills in more than one currency. How are totals shown?

Each bill keeps the amount and currency you entered. Totals (on the fridge, Calendar and Receipts) add everything up in your Main currency, which you choose in Settings. When other currencies are converted in, the total is marked ≈, because your bank’s own rate and fees may differ a little. Fridgie uses the European Central Bank’s daily reference rates, downloaded at most once a day and only when you have a bill in another currency.

Can Fridgie pay my bills?

No. Fridgie never connects to your bank, cards or billers. It keeps track of what’s due and what you’ve paid, and reminds you. If you save a Pay link for a bill, it’s there to open the biller’s page yourself.

Fridgie Pro and purchases

What does Fridgie Pro include?

A stainless side-by-side fridge with room for 20 bills, every receipt (not just 3 months), the Next bill, This month, Mini fridge and Lock Screen widgets, kitchen themes, calendar styles, Face ID lock and extra app icons. You can get Pro three ways: Pro Yearly; Pro Monthly; or Lifetime, a one-time purchase. All three include exactly the same features.

Is there a free trial?

No. Fridgie itself is free, with room for 6 bills, so you can try the app as long as you like before deciding on Pro. Pro Yearly and Pro Monthly are charged when you subscribe, and Lifetime when you buy it.

How do I cancel Pro Yearly or Pro Monthly?

In Fridgie, go to Settings and tap Manage subscription. You can also open iOS Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions and Fridgie. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge. Apple handles all subscription billing.

What happens when Pro ends?

Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for. After that, the kitchen goes back to the single-door fridge with your first 6 bills (the ones you added first), and their reminders. Newer bills are locked, not deleted: they come back as soon as you get Pro again. Receipts go back to the last 3 months, the kitchen theme goes back to Kitchen, and Face ID lock turns off.

I bought Pro but it isn’t active. What do I do?

Go to Settings in Fridgie and tap Restore purchases, signed in with the same Apple ID you used to buy it. This also brings Pro to a new iPhone or iPad.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose the Fridgie purchase.

Themes, icons and Face ID

How do I change the kitchen or the calendar?

Go to Settings → Pro and choose Kitchen theme or Calendar style. Kitchen and Classic are free; the others come with Fridgie Pro. The light switch works with every theme.

How do I change the app icon?

With Fridgie Pro, go to Settings → Pro → App icon and choose Classic, Midnight or Steel. iOS shows a short message to confirm the change.

How does Face ID lock work?

With Fridgie Pro, turn on Settings → Pro → Face ID lock. Fridgie then locks whenever you leave the app, and asks for Face ID (or your passcode) when you come back. Your face data never leaves your iPhone; Fridgie only learns whether it matched.

How do I turn off the sounds?

Fridgie plays short sounds for the light switch, picking up and moving slips, and the PAID stamp. Turn them off in Settings → Sound effects. They also stay quiet in Silent Mode, and they never stop music you’re playing.

Your data

Where are my bills stored?

Only on your iPhone or iPad. Fridgie has no account, no server and no connection to your bank, so we never see what you track. See the Privacy Policy for details.

How do I move to a new iPhone or iPad?

Fridgie’s data is included in your regular iPhone or iPad backup. Restore your new device from an iCloud or computer backup, or use Quick Start, and your fridge comes along. Then tap Restore purchases in Settings to bring back Fridgie Pro.

Does Fridgie sync between devices?

Not yet. Each device keeps its own bills, because Fridgie has no account or server. Fridgie Pro does carry over: on the other device, tap Restore purchases in Settings, signed in with the same Apple ID.

How do I delete my data?

Delete a bill from Details → Edit → Delete bill. To remove everything at once, go to Settings → Danger Zone → Reset All Data, type CONFIRM and tap Reset Everything. That deletes every bill, payment and reminder, and shows the welcome screens again; your settings are kept. Deleting the app also erases everything it stored. Your Fridgie Pro purchase stays with your Apple ID.
